Forest-based Livelihoods Consortium

Earth Innovation Institute is a member of the Forest-Based Livelihoods Consortium (FBLC), a partnership of nine environmental and indigenous organizations, with the aim to empower forest-dependent communities to more fully participate in and directly benefit from climate-change mitigation efforts in South and Central America. Earth Innovation Institute’s focus within the FBLC is to promote and strengthen sub-national jurisdictional approaches to REDD+ and to promote fair distribution of REDD+ benefits to indigenous and local communities within jurisdictional programs.

The FBLC is initially supported by a five-year grant from USAID to work in Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Peru, and Brazil. The FBLC helps indigenous and local communities engage with governments, finance institutions and other private sector actors in a positive way that recognizes and rewards the vital role played by these communities in the conservation of tropical forests and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Latin America.
