Indigenous Leaders, Regional Governments, and Private Sector, Together to Address Tropical Deforestation and Climate Change

The Earth Innovation Institute, in partnership with Forest Trends and COICA, will convene indigenous leaders, representatives of the Governors’ Climate and Forests Taskforce (GCF), and technical experts to discuss funding options and safeguards specifically related to benefit sharing mechanisms for indigenous and traditional communities within jurisdictional programs to recognize and reward the role of indigenous peoples in protecting tropical forests.

A cocktail reception and a dinner will follow the afternoon session. The dinner will be headlined by a keynote speech from Governor Agustin Teras Narang of Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, a member of GCF, and followed by a discussion among representatives of sub-national governments, the Consumer Goods Forum, commodity roundtables, COICA, and civil society groups. The objective of the discussion is to engage a wide range of actors in building a common agenda among indigenous peoples, state and provincial governments, companies, and donors for addressing tropical deforestation and climate change.
