Fixing the Amazon Forest Market Failure
How do we “make forest conservation make sense” for the people and communities of the Amazon who are responsible for it? That’s the question EII Executive Director and President Dan Nepstad tackles in this recent TEDx talk. If a hectare of forested land is worth just a fraction of that same land cleared, what are the mechanisms through which we can ensure the forest remains standing? Here, Nepstad offers three concrete strategies to help cover that distance, and to help slow the loss and speed the recovery of the Amazon.
