LESSONS LEARNED IN THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF MONITORING PLATFORMS FOR DEFORESTATION-FREE PRODUCTION
This report, developed by the Earth Innovation Institute as part of the Amazon Innovatech Project, outlines key lessons learned in the design and implementation of monitoring platforms for deforestation-free production. The study highlights the growing demand for deforestation-free supply chains in international markets, particularly in response to new European regulations. It evaluates 26 monitoring tools and platforms, assessing their applicability to smallholder farms in the Peruvian Amazon. The report identifies essential criteria for ensuring compliance with international standards, including traceability, legal land use, and sustainability verification. Additionally, it explores various technologies such as remote sensing, blockchain, and digital registries to enhance monitoring capabilities. The findings emphasize the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration and regulatory alignment to facilitate market access for sustainable agricultural products. The report concludes with recommendations for strengthening deforestation-free supply chains through improved monitoring, data integration, and policy support.
