Miguel Pinedo-Vasquez

Senior Project Scientist

Dr. Miguel Pinedo-Vasquez is a native of the Peruvian Amazon where he grew up in a remote village along the Ucayali River. His research focuses on issues related to the impact of resource management and land use on the sustainable provision of ecosystem services and goods. Currently, Dr. Pinedo-Vasquez has been working on smallholder responses to the emerging challenges and opportunities produced by urbanization, climate change, and other socio-environmental shifts in the Amazon and other tropical regions. He is well-known as one of the top experts on fires and other anomalies produced by land-use transitions, urbanization and climate change. In addition to Project Scientist at EII, he serves as adjunct professor in the Department of Evolution, Ecology and Environmental Biology as well as at the Anthropology Department at Columbia University. Dr. Pinedo-Vasquez received his doctoral degree from the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University.
