Aja has over a decade of experience in environmental policy, conservation finance, sustainable supply chains, and international development. Through her work in the US, Indonesia, Panamá, Costa Rica, and China, she has developed a broad base of knowledge relating to the environment, conservation, and sustainable development.
Her professional background has revolved primarily around nonprofit development as well as project management. Most recently, she worked on institutional fundraising with Fair Trade USA, a nonprofit social enterprise committed to growing consumer demand for sustainably produced products. Prior to that, she worked on all aspects of fundraising and donor relations with Conservation Strategy Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to embedding economic principles into environmental policy decisions. She has also worked in Indonesia with Lestari Capital, an environmental investment firm, on business development and expansion, and with Fair Trade USA on standards development.
She holds a Master of Development Practice from UC Berkeley’s College of Natural Resources. Her master’s thesis examined the potential for market-based mechanisms to support conservation through voluntary sustainability initiatives in deforestation-driving commodities. She holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business with a concentration in Management and Organization.
In her spare time, she serves as the Board Treasurer and volunteer Development Director for Compassionate Living, a North Bay Area-based nonprofit, and enjoys hiking, backpacking, cooking, and traveling.
